Hubcaps are special plastic caps placed on steel rims. Above all, they have an aesthetic function, as most of the designs imitate aluminum rims. In addition, wheel hubs play one more important role. Namely used in winter, they effectively protect the steel rim against the effects of aggressive agents, for example salts used to dissolve ice and snow. Many drivers say that hubcaps should not be used as they limit the dissipation of heat from the brakes. This is partly true, but this limitation can be omitted because blocking heat transfer is negligible. Well-chosen hubcaps emphasize the appearance of the car and help protect the rims from environmental factors and minor damage.
